Electrical Reactors & Autotransformer Starter
Series Reactors, Detuned Reactors & Motor-Starting Solutions
Electrical reactors have been a cornerstone of CIC’s product lines since 1985. Leveraging decades of expertise in product design, development, and manufacturing, CIC proudly presents a versatile range of low-voltage and medium-voltage detuned reactors (series reactors), encompassing both iron-core and air-core variations.
CIC’s dry-type electrical reactors fall into two primary categories: some are insulated with Class-H materials, such as Nomex, while others utilize epoxy-resin insulation. Notably, except for the air-core models, the reactor cores are divided into sections to ensure linear inductance.
Since 2002, CIC has stood as a qualified and approved provider of air-core resin-insulated series reactors designed for use with 12/24 kV capacitor banks in electrical substations. The air-core construction reduces core loss and operational noise, contributing to a more efficient and quieter operation.
Additionally, CIC excels in providing reliable motor-starting solutions: MV motor-starting reactors and autotransformer starters, the latter of which also referred to as motor-starting compensators.
CIC’s commitment to customer satisfaction extends to offering customizable detuned reactors (series reactors), motor-starting reactors, and motor-starting autotransformers tailored to meet the unique specifications and preferences of our valued clients. These MV air-core reactors are single-phase dry-type series reactors which are mainly used together with 12 kV or 24 kV capacitor banks in electrical substations of utility companies. The insulation shell of the product is molded in epoxy resin. To reduce core loss and noise, this type of self-cooling detuned reactor utilizes the air-core design and construction. Besides having excellent insulation and moisture resistance, these air-core reactors can withstand large short-circuit current, are easy to maintain, and offer great durability.
The Motor Starting Reactor or Motor Starting Autotransformer (Compensator) is economical and maintenance free. This medium-voltage dry-type motor starter can be made according to customers' specific requirements.
MV Dry-Type Series Reactors (detuned reactors) with ratings ranging from 3.6 kV to 24 kV have coils that are insulated with Class-H materials and then coated with epoxy resin. The three phases are insulated against each other by the air within the space between them. These electrical reactors are noted for their moisture resistance, excellent heat dissipation, low noise, easy maintenance, and product longevity.
Detuned reactors, connected in series, are necessary for circuits with high harmonic currents. These “series reactors,” usually part of a power factor correction (PFC) capacitor bank, help to reduce harmonics in currents, increase power efficiency, and prevent disasters caused by resonance.
